I have a 1/2" drive, 25-250 ft-lbs torque wrench. It is 5 years old and I've always been careful with it (never dropped etc). Last Wednesday it snapped a bolt that was good for 148 ft-lbs and it never "clicked".
Pete - you are in luck.
I'm a Metrology lab manager. We perform calibrations within the company. We just purchased an $60,000 torque standard that goes up to 1,000 ft lbs.
Since you are in my same town as me, Hemet, and we will probably meet in the C4 bomber run, and I can take it from you and check it at work. LMK

At least he knows what his torque wrench is doing. I tested it at 25, 50, 100, 150, 200, and 250 ft/lbs, 5 readings each point. The specs on these type of torque wrenches are typically ±4%RDG CW and ±6%RDG CCW. Pete's wrench was a little on the low side but within tolerance.
I don't think I have ever run into a Corvette enthusiest that was a stinker. Wathen1955 represents the kind of vette guy that makes me proud to also be one, he offered to test a total strangers torque wrench with no mention of compensation. to Walthen!!!!!!!!
