For those of you who didn't know, I made the mistake of filling the holes on my '90 on the emblem area and where the third brake light holes we're on the rear window hinge. I received my RED  gas door from Karshop today(thanks Gene) and the top window piece will be here Monday. Not sure about drilling the holes in the hood yet, I think I'll cringe on that one!! The reason I am doing this is the filler is beginning to shrink, aside from day one you could tell where the holes we're. It just took this long to bother me.
It looks awesome without them IMHO. I just get tired of "didn't there used to be something there, look you can see the holes" AGGGGG!!!GRRR !! :mad
Hey Jd,
I think even with the emblems and such it will look great...I know the smooth look can look a little better but dammit, body filler always shrinks, and I mean always.
Its almost like you need to fill, then wait 4-6 months, sand and fill again and then 4-6 months later if it didnt shrink anymore, then paint it.Painting right over filler, the paint will shrink with it and make them pits youre seeing now.Ive seen this tooooooo many times, despite the fact the fillers dried and hardened over a few weeks span.
Even the sanding scratches begin to show through.
Either way you go, itll look great yet I know what you mean about the sunken spots and the look that something belong there before.
:)
Your window hinge is going be a pain, if not impossible, to replace. They dont' seperate on their own. Mine broke free  but I've never heard of somebody getting one to let go because of something they did. Good luck.
It's a shame it didn't work out. I liked being different than all the other Vettes at shows....but oh well. Is it just the nature of the beast that the filler shrinks? Do they all? Hindsight of course is 20/20! :D Drilling that hood isn't for me to see(putting the hood emblem on requires punching the holes once again, through the filler)
Regarding the rear window hinge, and with all due respect.. I've heard soo many stories about not being able to get them off, or the glass breaking. I mentioned that to my mechanic who happens to be a Ford Guy. He likes challenges like that, and carefully separated the glue, and then removed the glass from the hinge..no sweat. I HAVE to replace mine. The holes are showing where the third brake light was, just like the gas door and hood. You live and learn!
I have a totally different problem...the black paint that was used in the filler for my emblems is fading...I don't want to get those stick-on letters, and painting them again seems like too much trouble...I wonder if some good ol' fashioned polishing compound will remedy my issue
I had a good suggestion today regarding the emblems. I really don't care for them. I could use the Callaway teardrops! Those would look better IMO. Does anyone know where I could purchase some?

Love the 'no emblem' look. Hate the obviously patched holes. Sometime in my car's life a dealer but an emblem on the rear bumper. Holes have subsequently been filled and painted. You guessed it. Now I have two little indentations where the holes were.
