I was driving in the rain today which sucked and my interior lights kept coming on, and flickering, and now are stuck on. My dash says door ajar. I have a 91 vert. Does anyone know why this is happening, i opened and shut the doors and made sure they are shut.
It's located on the end of each door and has a little black plunger that adjusts to the correct depth to contact the inner door frame. The plunger probably got pushed in too far and is no longer making good contact with the door frame, causing the flickering interior lights.
You can buy the door ajar switch from any of the Corvette vendors here on the forum or from the dealer.
I was playing with the switch and it still pushes down and when its pushed down the beeping and lights stop. But its like it doesn't get pushed down far enough when the doors shut, would it still be the switch?
Sounds like it's just the switch, but I thought the 'Door Ajar' light and the interior lights are triggered by seperate switches? I seem to remember one in the crook of the door and one at the end. The 'Door Ajar' light is triggered by the one at the end when the door doesn't latch well. The one in the crook of the door triggers the lights.
Mine did that just last month.....it was just sorta gummed up. I sprayed WD40 on it and then I pushed and allowed it to spring back out and click.....I did it over and over and all was healed.
Water lubricates the pin that makes contact with the body and closes the switch. When that happens, the pin gets pushed in too far and therefore the plunger doesn't get pushed in far enough to close the switch.
In the middle of the plunger on each door switch you can see the pin with a flat round head. Pry it out with a small flat blade screwdriver. It's self-adjusting, so when you close the door the first time it'll get pushed in to the right length and the switch will close.
It may well do it everytime it gets wet, so you may have to replace the switch(es) to keep it from happening. Prying the pins out should work at least until the next rain shower. You can lubricate the plunger, but DO NOT lubricate the pin.

If it doesn't move and it should...WD40
If it moves and it shouldn't...duct tape.
