Default Another Valve Cover discussion (LT1 please)

The problem: My stock covers are leaking.
The solution: Why not take this time to dress up the engine and get some cool aftermarket covers. Decided.
The question: With so many covers out there and huge differences in price, can you show pics of what you have bought and how well did they fit? Were there any mods needed to make them work?
My #1 choice at the moment are the black powder coated PML finned covers. After talking with them and checking out their site, there are modification needed due to the flange width being about .4" wider than stock. The alt bracket, etc... will have to be adjusted with spacers, etc...

Please post what you have done and show pics, especially if any mods have been made to the orig equipment.
Thanks

Here are some that I'm considering but not sure if they work.

Looks like Edelbrock covers are out as I just called them and they don't make LT1 covers.

Another issue for the later LT1 seems to be the breather hole. Stock is on the side but most covers place it on the top.

He has direct fit covers and can cut anything you want into them. The guy to talk to is Art Cost about $300.00

Wolverine1967,
Due to the relocation of the breather hole on the aftermarket valve covers like the aluminum proform shown above. I found that a 96 LT1 camaro breather tube works nicely on the relocation fit. Unable to post a pic but can send one to you if you pm me your e-mail address.

Innovators West has the correct covers no mods necessary. The PCV is in the correct location etc.

Default a little more searching

After a little more searching, I came across these:

Not sure about buying items like this off ebay, but they look okay.
Anyone know of the quality?

I have the black Proform's on mine and really like them - I did have to grind the back of the alternator a good bit for them to fit though.

Yes, I like those too. Wish they didn't have the type on them though (just personal pref).

You didn't have to touch the alt bracket? Just the alt grind?

Correct, the actual alternator housing itself.

That could make it worth the purchase then.
Do you use 1.6 rockers or stock?

I have the proform as well. They fit over my t&d shaft rockers. There is a flange on the inside of the valve cover that needs to be ground a bit so the gasket can sit flush with the cylinder head or the valve cover will leak. Beside that drop the alternator down in its bracket and you will see the part that touches the cover. Just grind off how much off the back that is necessary until it drops down without touching.

Interesting. Thank you. You wouldn't happen to have any pics of the part on the cover that needs grinding would you? Also, pics of the engine with them on?

For those that went with the proform. How did you solve the breather hole being on top? I heard from someone that the camaro hose works as a replacement?

not a problem. I can definitely get pics but my motor has since blown up and all the parts are in boxes still at my parents garage. Ill be heading there probably tomorrow I'll snap a pic. It's very easy to do with a dremel.

As for the breathers I believe I did order the camaro hose. It fits perfectly and still get under the fuel rail cover so it looks stock. As for the other 2 brather holes on the covers I used proform chrome caps. they are flat and plug in there so it looks clean. I am positive you can get them from summit now that I remember I think thats where I got them.
