I have a vert and jacking her up is a bit of a pain. I used to use a big regular hydraulic jack with a hickey puck but recently I found a nice light weight aluminum race jack that is especially made for low to the ground cars and it is much better. It has a nice rubber (or whatever) on the jack point. I once had a hockey puck split on me using it at the usual jack locations.
I pop open the hood and the doors and lift her. I usually use a solid part of the suspension. Stay away from the fiberglass! I try to lift the entire side, or front or back at the same time if possible. Otherwise, I just don't go very high if changing a tire.
My main question is, does the X brace still allow the use of a normal floor jack, or does the X brace not allow the jack pedestal to sit flat?
Probably not making my question clear......
On a coupe, in front of the rear wheels there is an area of frame edges that the floor jack pedestal can press against to lift the rear tires off the ground.
On a Vert doesn't the X brace attach in this area, so that the jack pedestal would not fit flat against? Maybe this is what I have incorrect?
I am trying to put the aftermarket X brace on my coupe, but it attaches to the frame in the area in front of the rear tires. If I put it on, then I will not have the frame area for my floor jack pedestal to press against. I am thinking the factory X brace attaches in the same manner.??????
If you want to raise the car to place it on jack stands, you can actually lift the car from the sides and not use the factory marks.
If you look under the rocker panel about midway between the marks, you will find a small stud that is used to hold a clamp for the metal lines that run down the side (left side for brake lines and right side for fuel lines) This stud and the lines sit inside and above the metal rail and pinch welds.
You can place the pad of the floor jack just forward of these two studs and raise the entire side of the car. Place the jack stands, lower the flor jack and repeat on the other side.
I can get my 87 off the ground and about 14" high in 5 minutes. I leave the hood down, the doors and windows closed as raising the entire side of the car won't cause any twisting.
The R-D Racing X-brace is supposed to use the same bolt hole locations on the frame rail as the factory 'vert X-brace. I think that some of the threaded holes are already in place.
