Mobile 1 in my 94 and 10-30 Valvoline in my 86.
Never any Penzoil or 10-40 ever, never ever, ever!
It seems like every really cruddy engine I have ever had the misfortune to work on was a 10-40 or Penzoil user (there have probably been hundreds of engines in the last 30 years).

I have heard bad things about every oil out there except Mobil 1. In the end I think it boils down to this, there are only 2 oils. Mobil 1, and all the rest. When I compared my Mobil 1 engine to my friend's caked up cruddy DINO engine it made up my mind forever.
There may be some really good other synth's out there, but none are as easily accessable to me as Mobil, so that's what I use. Dino will never me run in another motor of mine again.

I actually believe any oil will be just fine in normal use...Oh the question is
"what kind of oil do you use? "
I use Mobil 1 in the Vette (5W30) (I guess actions speak louder than words)
Valvoline synthetic in my wifes LHS (that's what the oil change place has vice Mobil 1)
and the '85 Ranger, 92 F150 or 87 Escort... what ever is on sale by the case, I keep about 24 qts on hand & am loyal to no brand (Havoline, Valvoline, Pennzoil, Q- State)... change the oil frequently & you're fine
Advantages: starts easier in winter (less amps to starter, thru solenoid, wires battery)
less friction therefore less heat and wear
Disadvantages: costs more
you do the math

Mobil-1 15w50 synthetic in the Vette. I autocross a lot and change it every 2 months minimum. Mobil-1 10w30 in my GMC Z-71 5.3. Nothing but synthetic in anything I've driven for about 15 years. If it's good enough for use in NASA's space and the Navy's nuclear submarine programs, it's good enough for my LT4.

I was using Valvoline Max-Life 10w30... It claims it will help seal old seals (my valve stem seals are shot). I, of course, got the usual start up smoke. I decided to switch to Mobil-1 10w30. I immediately noticed less startup smoke, less overall oil consumption, about 1 to 1.5 more MPG and slightly cooler oil and engine temps (about 5 degrees less). I am sold on synthetic!

Is it just me or doesn't the car say or manual or somewhere to ONLY use synthetics...just my 2 cents...
