First off I'm not sure if I am doing this right so here it goes. I am a U.S. Marine that has just returned from Iraq and for my leave, me and my bride took a tripto Fla to pick up a 1986 vette that was left to us by her brother who passed while I was gone. This was his only prized posession and I am honored he wanted me to have it. And it was the vehicle that delivered my bride to me at our wedding. I want to bring this car back to life as my brother in law was known to tinker alot with wires, speakers and such. The problem I have right now is the starter wortking when it chooses. I am having to jump th starter and plan on pulling it out this weekend but I only see two wires going to the big post on the solenoid. I thought there was one supposed to go to the little post also? Any help would be appreciated or wiring diagram. I want to get this thing mechanically sound before I tackel anything else. Need a ton of advise. Also later will be replacing the whole interor. Thanks in advance.
It sounds like the first thing you need to do is buy the factory service manual. They can be bought from vendors or from Ebay. Do not buy the Chilton or Haynes manuals as they are not nearly as good as the factory ones. For my 1991 there were 2 manuals needed, one for the mechanical aspects and another one was for the electrical.
Sounds like a good place to start. The sad thing is that I can build complete frames and cars out of a pile of steel but never got into the wiring. I just really want to take care of this car. Thanks.
