Default Wheel question 86

I have an 86 with the original rims which are not terrible but the clear coat is scoffed up in places. I have been through all the threads and read about guys spending 80 to 100 hours to strip and polish their rims. I wouldn't mind new rims but I have new tires already. Seems a shame not to go with bigger than stock rims but then I have to buy new tires as well. I am wondering what these original rims sell for now and if there is any interest in them. I am also curious to know what kind of rims you guys are putting on your early c4s and if you go up to the bigger rim and tire. Thanks

I bought an 86 about 8 years ago. I put new tires on it and spent about $800 for them. Two years later and 6,000 miles, I changed to 17's with new tires My old ones set for about 6 years. I sold the wheels and tires this summer for $400 to a guy putting them on an S10.

I replaced my stock wheels and tires on my 86 with 17x9.5 wheels and 275x40x17 tires. My old tires had about half tread left on them and the rims were in good shape. I got $400 for the set. I bought my new ZR1 chrome wheels and Sumitomo HTRZ II tires. I got them at lakeshorewheelandtire.com for $1239 mounted, balanced and delivered. I have had them over three years and am very happy with the wheels and tires.

Our 86 had 17" zr1 wheels on it when we bought it. I have been looking for stock wheels to put on it every once in a while just for kicks(and the mor "stock" appearance. Good sets of wheels/tires can be had for $200-$300.

The rims are in decent but not great shape and the tires have maybe 5k on them. They are BF Goodrich G force tires. I have put so much coin into a brand new interior so I guess I am on the fence with new rims/tires. I have a new paint job and it kind of sucks to look at so so rims. If any body in or near CT is interested in these tires/rims please send me a pm and we can talk. I don't think shipping these would be good. Also, if anybody has really nice/ cool 17" rims let me know. One last thing, do I need the hub adapters to go to 17" rims? Thanks guys
