I removed the fuse to stop the fuel pressure to change the water pump, put back together now car won't start. Do I have to energize the fuel pump? if so, how do you do it. Anyone done this before?.
The fuel pump gets energized when you turn on the ign sw to run, it runs for 2 seconds and will be turned on if the ECM receives ign pulses from the distributor and/or if the oil pressure switch gets 4 psi on it. The ECM turns on the fuel pump relay and the oil pressure switch bypasses the fuel pump relay. You could measure the voltage on the fuel pump fuse while you crank the engine and see if you get 12v and for how long, try both ends of the FP fuse. If you get 12v but no fuel pump noise, then you have to check the fuel pump wiring and if ok, the fuel pump is suspect. If no 12v on the FP fuse, then you have to find out why. You will need to determine if the ECM is getting power and if the ECM receives distributor pulses during cranking.
