My underhood lights aren't working. I figured it was the bulbs so i bought 2 and nothing. I can't find a switch for them. What fuse is it? Any other ideas why they woudn't work?
It could be that the wires for the lights are not connected. Look in the headlamp wells next to the cornering lamp housings. The harness from each of the underhood lamps travel downward to the housings and there is a 2-wire Weatherpak connector near the housings. Check to see if they have been disconnected there. That's pretty common to do if the hood is left up for extended periods.
The mercury switches are at the bottom of the clip that holds the bulbs. For the most part these don't fail but somebody could have removed them.
There should be power to the housings at all times. The mercury switches are inside next to the bulbs. When the hood tilts, the mercury moves and completes the circuit. Test first for 12V to the housing. If no power there, check down in the front fender wells and see if someone has unplugged them. I leave mine unplugged when working on the car for more than a few minutes so they don't drain the battery. A previous owner may have just unplugged them.
