IMO there are two things the 911 lacks. One is no spirit inside. I feel like I am sitting in a top of the line VW. Nothing special. Second the price. These cars are way over priced. Just one mans opinion I guess.

Haven't spent hours in these cars but have driven enough to appreciate them, just too high maintenance cost for me. 928's have gotten cheap enough to appeal as a home for LSX swap I'm sure that would give purist something to complain about!

Default 911 and Caymen S

I've driven both a 2007 911 and a 2009 Caymen S. Both would blow doors on my 1988. Thing is, my $6,000 C4 dollar for dollar crushes the Porsche 911 and Caymen S. Those are expensive cars. I'll save the $75,000 to $125,000 for a Porsche and keep my 1988.

Now a new Vette vs a 911? I'd take the vette. The only thing the Porsche would have over the Vette is the interior(C6 interior is cheap, plasticy and rental car-ish). Porsches are a true sports car. Just like a Corvette. Both are killer and 99.9% of the people on the road would love to have our Vettes, even if they are a Porsche fan too.

An LSx 928, that would be

Renegade hybrids puts out a nice kit for adapting the SBC to the 928. I think an LTx engine is actually 50lb lighter than a 928 motor, and an LSx might be another 50lbs lighter - perfect offset for the weight of turbos or a blower!

Speaking of Porsche cars...

The Joetwint Porsche 996 is scary fast. Twint scored a world record top speed of 231.4 mph in the Texas Mile, and at a recent run the Evolution Motorsports-tuned 911 managed to hit 224.711 mph, but it also had a bit of a spill. Hit the jump to watch video of the massively-boosted 996 take off like a rocket and reach speeds of over 200 mph in a matter seconds. The video would be impressive enough even if it were simply a standard run, but this clip has a bit of a surprise ending.

About 54 seconds in, the incredibly high speeds achieved by the 996 prompted the sunroof to pop right off. That's bad when you're going 85, but when you're cruising at nearly one third the speed of sound, it can be catastrophic. A few seconds after the impromptu top-popping, the 996 gets sideways and ends up taking an unscheduled tiptoe through the weeds. The video is pretty entertaining, but it's also informative. If you're building a world-beating track star capable of speeds of over 200 mph, don't opt for the sunroof.

Default 928 & c4

[QUOTE=curtis74;1571938306]Saturday was a nice day so the family and I drove to see my father who has a 1985 and 1997 911 Porche’s. I rode in both before, but he let me drive the 1997 on Saturday with him. WOW, that thing is an amazing car. That thing corners like it’s on rails. One thing I did notice is that the steering, even though it corners better, was not as tight as that on my C4.

Awhile ago, my mechanic for my German Cars .. had a 928 in, and told me how perfectly balanced it was. Probably not the muscle of C4 .. but an excellent sports car. Leave it to the Germans, my last race was sponsored by the Local Porsche Club. I took 1st. place among Xclass .. non Porshe, 50 out of 70cars.
