Here are the government's numbers on corvettes which were used for trade ins in the cash for clunkers program. Below are all the corvettes by year. Every corvette traded in under this program except 20 was a 1980s model. RIP 123 C4s who contributed to helping our economy.

Not a single C6 was purchased new under the cash for clunkers program. That is a little disappointing if you ask me.

Edmunds did an analysis on cash for clunkers. It cost us, the taxpayer, $24,000 per car traded in. Edmunds also came to the conclusion that cash for clunkers didn't "help the economy". It just brought forward sales that were going to happen soon anyway.

The Obama administration felt a need to attack Edmunds on their blog.

I think Edmunds is right, cash for clunkers was "bread and circuses", and didn't help the economy. Seems like even if it did, I don't call 10% unemployment with jobless claims rising a good economy. And I don't think it would be any worse without the cash for clunkers.

The good news: 20 less 1987s. My car is getting more rare all the time!

 

Bummer ! It's great fun to rescue old cars and watch them come back to life especially in the company of a loved one !

123 is such a small percentage of Corvettes, especially in the C4 time frame that I would be willing to bet that more are lost to accidents on a yearly basis.

 

It sucks that these were takin off the road but these cars will go the specialty auto wreckers that deal in Corvettes and parted out.These cars will not be crushed,too much money to be made.The sad thing about the black 86 coupe that we have seen posted everywhere was a low mileage car that looked clean,OEM Gatorbacks,valve covers not discolored.

 

Actually, according to the Cash for clunkers program, they where all supposed to be crushed minus a few items the salvage yards could resale. Strangely, I've heard a good number of these cars have not only been parted out, but are back on the road (not these corvettes, just cars in general).

You mean some person out there actually traded a low mileage 89 for a Kia Sportage 2WD? Crazy freakin' world we are living in. . .

 

I bought new Honda Accord, and yes I still have 1989 Corvette. I wouldn't sell it, its weekend car fun car to drive top down.

 

Put that in the CONs column of the PROs and CONS of starting a family. I'm lucky my wife and kids love our 'Vette as much as I do... Well, almost as much...

 

The mini cooper s jumps out at me but technically they are not real minis, they are BMW's this is a real mini!!!

 

Just remember , Obama didn't sign an executive order in the middle of the night like "W" did. The cash for clunkers program was voted for by Dems & GOPs. both. Congress passed the bill. And there were plenty of people who bought new cars that would not have if they weren't offered $4500.00 on a trade-in.

 

Really? Bush had a cash for clunker program? I'm sure there were a lot of people who did buy that wouldn't have otherwise. I'm also sure they were in the minority.

 

This info saddens me. Maybe we can enact a similar "Cash for Clunker Politicians" program. But then again I would not pay $4,500 for most of these political dolts. Although it would be worth much more just to put them in the permanent unemployment line.

I hope all these C4's escaped from this stupid program even if by some nefarious means. Unbelievable stupidity again from our government. The same government folks who helped to over regulate our once proud auto manufacturing industry into bankruptcy.

This program did stimulate sales, but how can these increased sales be sustained without the $4,500 payment. And Edmunds claims each clunker cost close to $24,000, which I bet is more truthful.
