Default Shocks

I am thinking of changing the shocks on my 1990 corvette. It is now equipped with the FX3 air control shocks. Can I replace them with a less expensive kind of shock that will provide a nice ride for less? I am not to concerned with the original equipment for resale, since other things have already been changed. Any suggestions are welcome.
Thank you Dennis

I wish my C4 had the FX3 system. I have the heavy duty suspension on my 1995 and the ride is firm, first generation runflat tires don't help either. I traded a 1990 with the FX3 option and really liked it. The suspension adjusts to the road differently/faster with the electronic system than just standard shocks. The FX3 system is an early version of the now available F55.

Thanks for your note Larry, but that didn't answer my question. I need new shocks and I want to replace them with less expensive ones.
I need advise from someone that has changed them without using the original air control ones.

I think if you use the non-OEM shocks it'll trigger an error code, "Service Ride Control" on the dash. Other than that, I don't think there are issues.

I think you can get the original shocks rebuilt, though, for about the same price as a new set.

Thank's Dave, I never thought of the error code. I had that code for a while and someone before me unplugged the wire for that. It has since been replugged and I don't get any error. My garage said that the shocks are leaking, so I better replace them. Again thank you

You can get your stock shocks rebuilt, or just get new ones.

No need to buy a new controller.

Nice ride and C4 do not belong in the same sentence.
....and the shocks have nothing to do with it.
Just bolt on a set of Bilsteins or Konis and be done with it forever.

That's what I was thinking about, but like one other guy said I may get an error code on my computer. I don't know if the computer is hooked into the air ride control or not, I will have to do some checking. I appreciate the opinion, thanks

If you pull the FX-3s you can always pull the bulb behind the DIC for the light. Or use a piece of black electrical tape. GC
