I have a sailboat weing 120 lbs and a lightweight aluminum trailer. I dont want to put a hitch on unless it can be more or less invisible but 45 mins is a long way to drive moms explorer :nonod: both ways just to bring the damn boat. Is this a sin? Do they make a hidden hitch?
Paul Hammersly has a sweet hitch on his 1996 CE, its not entirely hidden, but you can't really tell what it is until you get up to it. He got it from Ecklers, but its basicly a Reese hitch according to him. I've just sent him an e-mail, as I need to add a hitch to my car for towing my motorcycle. I'll let you know what I find out. http://www.reesehitch.com/89072_e74051.html
There is a picture of what it looks like on a Mini-van, its not bad looking at all.
Alright, one more post, I like that one because you retain the use of your spare tire, I think, thats one thing I asked Paul about, this one it doesn't look like you do, but its considerably cheaper, if you wouldn't mind putting the spare on the trailer or in the boat, this one would probably work. http://www.reesehitch.com/76578_e74501.html
I've heard of 'em... let us know how you make out..In addition to my keel boat I have a Hobie 16 (trailered about 300#)) would be nice to pullit w/ the Vette instead of the truck... just so once I am there I still have the Vette. :yesnod: :yesnod:
Yeah-- I love having the Vette at the lake. I have a sunfish and frequently go to Oklahoma to race circuit regattas. Last year I got beat on the second day of our regional by an Olympic Coach putting him ahead of me and so I didnt qualify for worlds-- Hopefully I can go by invite. It would be nice to be able to drive the vette on the long trips.
just wondering if any of you guys put th hitch on yourselfs? i have installed 4 of them at a shop i work at and it is a total freaking nightmare, the c5 is easier, but the c4 is a mother.
the hardest part is drilling the holes, see those long bolts in the picture? they go from the bottom of the frame to the top and you put the nut on top, so you have to drill completely through the frame STRAIGHT, the ones i put on were the customers i cant remember what brand they were, we are a certified hitch install place for draw tite hitches and they dont even make a hitch for a c4 if that tells you something lol. the hitches i installed had a long metal tube the length of the long bolts in the picture, this long sleve (tube) goes inside the frame and the long bolts run through the hitch, through the frame into the long sleve and out the top of the frame, the sleve is what keeps the frame from crushing when you tighten the bolts, its just a royal pain in the butt i recommend that someone that does this for a living do this one, find a hitch place and ask them if they have installed one on a vette before with the aluminum frame i wouldnt trust it to just anyone. the ones i put on were definitely not bolt-on`s, it would be great if someone made one that was
