Thinking of selling our 84 Silver over Gunmetal Gray. Never been abused and my wife and I have owned it since 1992. Solid engine and mechanically perfect, no damage ever, no leaks at all always garaged, but the paint is worn out. It's got 85K miles on it. But this is a car you could get in and Drive to California without any fear at all. New tires 100 miles on them, and last year it got a complete new exhaust system, Engine to mufflers. Having trouble uploading pic's !
Are you looking for opinions for what the car might be worth or...what you'll likely find buyers offering? It's a really bad time to be selling any
C4 (not to mention the 84 is at the lowest end of the C4 market).

Yeah, I told her in this economy we're lucky to get 3K FWIW I saw a pristine 84 sell at Barret/Jackson auction for $14K but that's a low milage perfect car.

Why sell a perfectly good car as you put it. If the market is paying 3-4K for them I'd keep it and drive it till spring. Market should go up some for this type of car by then. I've bought a few verts in the fall/winter to sell in the spring and have done good every time.
I just bought my c4 2 weeks ago. I didnt know it had the issues it had but its a 92 with 62000 miles on it. auto coupe. paint good, some chips on front but good. Tight car. We paid 9. Actually I traded my sea doo for it. Good trade!

Don't want to rain on your parade, but $9K is an awful high price for that car unless it's something very special. I can find that car anytime for less than $7K easily. My 93 which is pristine and a one owner car was only $6,200 last fall and prices have gone down since.
Also, if this is the same car that had all the problems on the other post and still needs paint, you are really buried in that car. Sorry, JMHO...........

Thanks but Im not worried about it. I like the car and its a good car just beiong a little fussy. Book on it is almost 12 grnad . I also know that just because book says its worth something doesnt mean Ill get it. Someone sent me a mesage and said basically if I put money into the car and know Im going to keep it and enjoy it then no big deal. If Im trying to make money on it then I wont. Im not trying to make money on it. I habe 2 other cars anyway. This is my fun fast car.
I paid $4000 for my 85 vette and it had good paint but had some spider cracks and a few minor bad spots. I would think an 84 that needs paint would go for $3000-$3500. If you are selling it to buy another car, you probably don't want to do this but cash for clunkers is paying $4500 I think, don't quote me on that. i would sooner sell a vette for $3000 than have it destroyed for $4500.
But even if you do a MAACO paint job on it best you will get is about $4800.

Understood, as long as you're happy with it, that's all that matters. But remember that book is WAY, WAY overstated. If anyone on this forum could get book value for their car, almost all would jump at it. A stock 92 needing paint and the kind of repairs you mentioned is about a $3 K car at most. The unfortunate thing is that once you've made the repairs and painted it and have $10K tied up in it it's still only going to be worth about half. Just the nature of the market.

I know book is overstated. It doesnt NEED a paint job. the nose has some rock chips and could use being painted. The paint is fine. It just needs a good buff job. I havent heard from my friend about going to the track today so thats not going to happen. Im going to try to put the window tint on that I bought off ebay and take a drive. Ill be back at the dealer monday morning and get them to fix it. From whats been mentioned on here Ill tell them it seems its running too rich or there may be a vacuum leak.
Thanks
Just bought my 1995 with 77k miles, sport seats and FX3 suspension for $7000. Trade in value is $9k in fair condition, but I do not know what a dealer would actually pay in trade..depends what I was buying I suppose. Even in warm climates where you can drive year round, a vette is still a luxury item that will harder to sell in this economy.
I haven't had any bad surprises yet...mine really only needed $200 worth of TLC.
No disrespect intended, but where do you find all these cheap Corvettes?
Just about anything '88 or newer seems to fetch $10,000 with lower miles (under 100,000). At least, that is the market I am dealing with. There are some that are a bit cheaper, but not substantially.
What the gentleman paid ($9 grand for a '92 coupe with 62,000 miles) would seem like a fairly good deal here (not taking sides--just stating what I see for prices here).
I take it that Minnesota is not an ideal location to buy a Vette? I am new to the market, so this topic is of interest to me.
