Can anyone help chase my car history? Vin number is 1G1YY0782G5123456. I have got as far as Carfax but they don't do UK.
Ta for any help.
Found the original (Florida?) ad but no date or price. http://www.corvetteforum.net/c4/moteman1/
Would be nice if I could find moteman1
I have had the car in the UK nearly 3 years now. When I got it , it was a rolling shell, should be running by Easter next year.
What are you looking for in terms of "history?? CARFAX will only show prior owners in the US, mileage at the time of sale, and any accident information assuming it was reported to a police agency or an insurance company.
If you want documentation like the window sticker and the build sheet, you can buy copies from the National Corvette Museum here. The window sticker will show the specific options ordered on the car, the total retail selling price, and the name of the dealer that received the car. The Build Sheet will show the options by the 3-digit RPO code (you can see them all here along with shipping weights. The build sheet is what follows the car down the assembly line and the workers use that information to know what goes on the car. These are great for displays at shows or just to frame and put on a wall.
Using the figures I have so far, it averages out at 2316 made per month. So a very rough guess so far as late Feb 86. That puts it before April 1 1986 as a construction date. Handy for UK registration.
Engine is now a 1980 4 bolt truck motor, so that sets the emissions date as it is a carb motor.
It looks like I am the fourth owner. The second one, moteman, had the big block put in and the third one took it out after it came to the UK. Full circle now as I have put a 350 sbc in. It was white and it will be white again.
Carfax has 13 records against the car. Mileage doesnt matter much as the only original bolt on part l have left is the front suspension and steering column, plus doors and glass.
Well here goes...this is from the National insurance crime manual that cops use to inspect stolen cars with. here is your vins # breakdown...1=Nation of orign......G= Manufacturer GM....1= Chevrolrt....y=car series...y=.......0=body style...7= restraint system....8=Engine....2= check digit G = model year 1986 [always 10th digit in vin] ....5= assembly plant[Bowling green] rest of numbers are build sequence. Hope it helps. You car is positivly a 1986 Model. It may?? have been built in late 1985?? But sequence number looks high. Check sticker in Drivers door for build month/year marked on sticker.
i know this is a lil off subject but can i find out my vettes exact build date?? i would like to throw a lil birth day party. No cake just doenuts
If you get the build sheet from the National Corvette Museum it will tell the exact build date, all original equipment, options and selling dealer, well worth the money.
Look for a sticker on the driver's door that shows the vehicle weights for each axle. The month the car was built will be shown on this sticker.
The Build Sheet won't show the exact date the car was built. There will be a date in Julian date format that shows when the order was put into the schedule and that date may be 2-5 days prior to the frame actually being welded together and starting down the line. Depending on the day of the week or a holiday, a car started on a Friday or the day before a holiday could take 3-4 days to be completed.
I don't know if the Assembly Plant ran two shifts back in '86, but if so, then it's entirely possible that a car could have been built in one day. With a single shift, it could be two days.

Thanks for the clarification, seems like the build sheet must have changed over time as the one for my 93 shown below has a date and time shown in conventional format located at the top right corner.
The National Corvette Museum confirms the date shown is when the order to build was entered into the computer, they indicated the actual build date and time is unknown, but would typically occur from 5 to 7 days after the date shown on the build sheet.
