Default EGR valve

I went out and started the car about 15 mins ago. It stutters and I can smell gas. If I push the gas pedal down it runs fine. Im thinking its that egr valve. Is that something thats easy to replace? Im going to take it back to the dealer monday. they mentioned you cannot replace that unless the car is cold. What do you guys think?

First I would check the simple things.....like is there gas leaking anywhere on the top of the engine at start up? Pull the vacuum line off the fuel pressure regulator and see if there is fuel in the line.

PS it helps to know what year your car is to be more specific. Please always include the year or put it your avatar.

Thanks my car is a 92 coupe. It has 62000 miles on it. I took the car out again and it doesnt want to start and at idle is sluggish. Ill be at the dealers at 8am monday morning. They will have to dig into it. I just want it running right.I had to get the audio control replaced on radio. That was fixed and now the radio says scv and wont come on. I tried to play a cd and it just clicked. Im glad there is a shop here that dpoesnt charge a fortune and knows how these radios work.

It actualy sounds like a leaking fpr. You need to get your hands dirty. THese cars aren't all that complicated. It just takes a while to get your tech side of your brain functioning and have a few small successes fixing things.
Who knows, you might even do improvements on your own. Just do one at a time

You need to get the plenum out for all this. no big deal if you know how to organize things to get it redone backward in the same sequence.
Get a service manual and decent tooling first.

Thanks but Im just going to get it back to the dealer tomorrow morning and make them fix it. Im not going to take time to try to learn this stuff and spend the money on tools and if I dont get it right then trying to figure out what I screwed up. Its just too much!

EGR valves are easy. Do it yourself. They cost less than $60.00. Located right on top of the manifold near the distributor. It is on my 84.
3 bolts and its off. I did mine and car ran 100% better. It was original and car has 90,000.

Oh ya, they can do it when its hot. Thats crap. I did mine after I drove the car. Just may need to wear gloves is all.
