Default Brake problems-87 Corvette

I am having a problem with the left front brake -it seems to be binding and won't release completely-the wheel feels very hot! The caliper and bearing/hub were replaced and the system flushed and bled but that did not solve the problem- I would welcome any help- Thanks HK

Did you check the brake hoses? Was it a rebuilt caliper also?

Thanks for the quick response-the caliper and hose were replaced -could it be a speed sensor or abs problem?

A VSS or the ABS "should" not be a problem. Has the ABS light come on during hard braking or just when driving?

Sometimes you get a reman caliper that was either not assembled properly (piston may be binding in the bore) or was not completely cleaned before the rebuild process.

Remove the caliper and see if you can push the piston back in the bore by using a C-clamp. If it won't move, then I would have the caliper replaced.

Default 87 Brakes

The ABS light has not come on at any time-I don't think that it is the caliper because when I drove it today I came back and jacked it up and the wheel would not turn by hand (the wheel and caliper felt hot)- after about 10 minutes the wheel turned freely. Thanks for your help

next time you take it out and come back try to turn the wheel if tight - open up the bleeder and see if it frees up the wheel . If it does something is not letting the pressure release from that line.

Mine is also left front-I already have new rotors and pads all around- new (rebuilt?) caliper and bearing hub on left- I hope to get some time to look into it in the next couple days and I'll let you know!

I checked the front brakes today after taking it out for a 10 min drive-I jacked it up and found both front wheels were hot-and the and the brakes were locked the wheels did not turn! I cracked the bleeder valves to release pressure and that freed up the wheels-so I don't think that the calipers are the problem- my next move will be to check the brake lines between the master cyl and the front wheels to see if there is a blockage-if not I will change the master cyl - any other ideas?

well not having seen my car for the last few weeks not sure whats next but does the brake line run to the abs pump ? if not then its got to be the master cylinder i would think.

OMG a new cylinder from ecklers is $230 !! i'll be looking round for a rebuild kit if they are out there !!!!!!

This very well be the ABS hydrolic assembly. They use a one way valve and it could be holding back pressure
