Spend an hour every spring and tighten all the interior screws and hardware. I recently rebuilt the front suspension and tighten down the interior and squeks and rattles are down considerably
Great observation. In its day, the C4 was unbeatable by all competitors. Funny how many have short memories of the past contributions made by the C4 generation of Corvettes. Many here judge C4's by today's standards which is amazing. Heritage is what makes Corvette the legend it is, in both America and in the rest of the world. Sadly, we are losing this as you noted to foreign competition.
Best of luck.
Yes we are losing advertising to Foreign competitors. The young kids want Subaru WRX. 'Fast & Furious' .. That is just marketing .. GM. has just lost focus .. I am a Filmmaker & Vette nut .. Just give me a chance.

You sound like you get it. I hope you get an opportunity to make a difference with your film making and passion for Corvettes. Before it's too late ...
What a retarded thing to say. Put a thousand japanese employes on that c4 assembly line and you would have ended up with the same final product. The American Union line worker just completes the final job. They don't design the vehicle. They don't choose what materials to use. They don't engineer the build process or choose what parts to use. Use your head the American companies failed upstairs not the union worker.
I have to agree with you here. The engineers at GM were pushing the envelope with the Corvette. Experimenting with Fiberglass & plastics. Now common in all production cars. My Vette rattles and makes all kinds of noises. I removed the stereo so I could really experience my C4. At 23 it will still blow the doors off most Japanese or German Supercars.
Great video. A 600+ hp Porsche and your C4 beat it by 2 seconds! The early C4's are fierce competitors on the autocross circuit. Even today they still compete, and beat, many of the sophisticated new guys. Thanks for the link. It confirmed what I have known - the C4 was way ahead of its time.
This morning while driving to work I noticed all the noises that my interior makes. Usually Im oblivious to it due to the fact I have a pretty good sound system in the car. I had the radio off and was completly overwhelmed. The rear hatch was making its trademark rattle. The passenger side door was sounding like two plastic pieces were in constant contact and would make noise until the drone of my Billy Boat exhaust cleared at 2300 rpm. I noticed my driver side door panel came loose and considerable road noise was coming in from the gap on top. And then I heard my left balljoint making noise so just ordered one of those. But either way this to me is the allure of owning americas finest sports car. Me and my vette will spend quality time this afternoon with a couple of tools. I could careless. I love my c4 and wouldnt have it any other way!

I think we are turning the corner on this one.. The sport compact scene is dead. We went to the international auto show last month and the Camaro and Zr1 were like ROCK STARS to the Young'uns..
It's an american car made in the USA... expect imperfections.. lol, not too bright to buy them new... and have squeeks, and rattles...lol If the japs and germans can build cars with no squeeks and rattles why can't the american union line worker do the same?
I think you nailed it. In 2007, GM was loosing 2billion a month and the unions struck 80 plants.
A wrx runs 13's, costs a lot less than a mustang GT or an SS Camaro, is all weather capable, and is probably easier to sell. I've had a wrx and currently have a mitsubishi evo. Of course people like them as there isn't really any other car in that segment to compare it to.
the biggest thing has always been affordability..now even the Japanese stuff is out of reach...Hyundai has a couple of interesting cars too...
I bought my 1988 coupe new and had it for 6 or 7 years. When it was new I don't remember noticing any noises out of the ordinary from any other new performance car. I was more thrilled with the performance and handling. I would have taken it back to the dealer for any annoying noises if it had any. Now, my 94 has a few that I'll get to one of these days.
Corvette = a bucket of bolts traveling down the highway at approximately the same speed.
If you want a rattle-free Corvette, your only choice is to go buy a Porsche 928 (they're about the same price as a C4!). Just hope it doesn't break down on you as parts are $$$.
I've had both, and you can't beat the $ per fun ratio of the 'vette.

Did these things squeak/ rattle when new?
While I did not buy my 95 new ... I bought it in 2005 with 35K on it ... it had NO squeeks or rattles then and now at 105K it has very few if any. When you read through the C4 history of changes and improvements from year to year the last few model years were significantly improved. By then all of the more technical bugs had been worked out and resolved and the engineers actually had some time to work on and improve the rattles with strategic placement of velcro and rubber pads

what kind of arrogant, SOB would blame a line worker for the quality of any car? could you walk on water for me and explain how everything works i don't have your level of intelligence.
no my 88 doesn't rattle, but could use new shocks, they are original and still work.

And although I didn't buy my '96 new, it still does not have any squeaks or rattles at all. I bought it with 40K miles on it, and it has just a little over 100K now.
yaa, i bought my 94 convert during summer. never noticed any type of squeak or rattle all summer long. weather got bad, closed the top and the windows.... drives me nutss! granted, the car has 133,xxx miles on it and im sure alot of the suspension is worn out, the weatherstripping is trash, and i should go through the interior and tighten everything up. but yes, very noisy over bumps and what not. but man, when that top is down, the you hear nothing but nice loud exhaust. i like the raw feeling the car has, makes me feel like im driving some kind of drag strip monster or something
I bought an new, early production 84 back in the Spring of 1983. It had the base suspension and was an automatic (the manual transmissions were not available yet). It did not have any squeaks or rattles. I owned it for one year and put approximately 12,000 mile on it. I now own 5 C4 convertibles. They don't have squeaks or rattles - and I am sensitive to those annoyances.
Part of the fun with these cars is taking them apart to hunt down these squeaks and rattles. I don't think I will ever eliminate all of them in my 86 but in my quest to do so I have figured out lots of cool things about the car. Serendipity. The bad side of this is that you also figure out how to spend lots more money. How many times have I said "I may as well replace that since I have it all torn apart" A good radio is the ultimate fix
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
