I "broke" my 700R4 heading up to Fun Fest at Effingham IL last September when I yanked it from 3rd to 2nd entering an interstate ramp. Given that I was unemployed, repairs were delayed for awhile.
Given that I maintain a web site for a local C4 salvage yard, I contacted them about possibly loaning me a tranny until I could afford to get mine repaired. As luck would have it, they were wanting to start rebuilding their own trannies (they were already doing the Nash 4+3's) and made me a deal I couldn't refuse.
They got it done, but for some reason the trans wouldn't engage OD. Acutally I got it to shift in to OD once @ 118 mph, but it would immediately shift back out. A return trip to their shop, and they found and fixed the problem.
I took the car out last night and thrashed it on very curvy local state road. It survived power slides in 2nd, locked the tires up from high rpm 3rd to 2nd downshifts, and still burns rubber from 1st to second. So needless to say, I'm very happy :D
The TV cable is going to need a bit of adjustment because it shifts to second a little too quick at WOT (doesn't even hit yellow on the tach), but I can handle that. I'm just glad to have my baby back!!!
BTW, the rebuilder quipped that there are 1400+ parts in a 700R4. He had to completely disassemble everything because the part I broke, a sprawl, contaminated everything in there. I doubt I'll get a Christmas card from him this year :D
