I enjoy my '86 convertible but it's absolutely horrible for luggage space. What's available for luggage racks for the '86 convertible? Anybody have experience?
I know you need the room but I don't know about them on a C-4 vert. I never liked the looks on a C-3. I believe they had problems with spider cracks if you put too much weight on them. I would think that after awhile it would cause problems.

The "factory" racks have been out of stock at suppliers for quite some time, best bet is just keep searching here in parts for sale or E Bay. Try to be sure it is complete. Originally they came with a great install template if you can find one
As far as disadvantages, i have had mine for ears and use it to haul some pretty heavy loads with no problemd.

I also think it looks great!
One of the accessory catalog even had a large custom-built storage container to go with their version of the luggage rack. IIRC, Eckler's had one as did Mid-America. This was a locking container with a water-tight seal and the entire thing could be lifted off and brought inside when on the road.
The rack attached to the rear deck but there were a number of mounting points so the load was spread across the rear deck and it could take a fair amount of weight.
