Outer window door seals
Has anyone changed out a outer window door seal? Was wondering how they are attached to the door. Screws or snap tabs? I suspect the door panel needs to be removed? Can they be changed with the window in the down position? Thanks for any info.

Remove door panel, remove rubber top front and rear of door, drill out old rivets, re-rivet. Be careful drilling out rivets not to go through door skin, some have used screws to re-attaché windows sweeps. If first time doing it should take about a hour a side, the insides are harder because they are stapled in and replacing staples is a little harder because you have to line up holes.

When you drill out your rivets, window down, slide a piece of copper tubing over your drill bit so only about 1/2" of the bit is exposed on the end, You will have to cut the tubing to length.
This will stop your drill bit from going farther then you want it to once it cuts through the head of the old rivet, if not, like stated above, you could wind up with a hole drilled into your outer door skin or a busted window from contact with the drill bit.
Good luck

window seals
Since my '89 conv. project was just completed 2 days ago, perhaps I can give you a little insight at what your looking for. First off, mine was done at an interior shop. 14 pcs. in all including inner and outer seals and wipes. Windows go up and down a little slower but that is to be expected.(haven't lubed tracks or rubber yet). Also had the door seals replaced and the newer rubber, being thicker and not worn out, has forced the doors out a little now having to use a little more force to shut but now a solid closure. All my old rubber was original and if you decide or need to go the full kit route, would be happy to pass on additional info on adjustments for the top, doors and roof tracks. Also, the door panels should be removed and the my new ones clipped into place, at least my kit did. Purchased through Marcels Corvette via Ecklers. All GM numbers and the price(s) were all competitive.
