Default Replating Early C4 Wheels

Can the original early C4 wheels be re plated. Besides chroming is there a way to restore them to original look or must they be changed with new OEM wheels? Are they available? Cost?

factory OEM C4 wheels were not chrome plated, they were clear coated aluminum, with probably, just a clear enamel. there are professional shops that restore aluminum wheels, at about $150 each. if your wheels are chromed, someone paid to have them plated, or bought plated originals. besides zr-1 style wheels, i don't think anybody reproduced original salad shooter's. i've seen chrome originals at around $600/set exchange. might be able to get them cheaper - ???

They're aluminum so I would say you would first have to get the clear coat off, get them buffed up and then have a another coat of clear applied. Most wheels that I've seen it's the clear coat that's shot.

the wheels on my 84 were stripped, and polished and they look better than new (a little dirty in this pic)

The clear coat can be removed with a paint stripper. Then you can polish them yourself...
look for a post in the C5 section by C5 Naples... or PM him.

The PO had the insides of my 87 rims painted red. After two days and a can of paint stripper I decided to get them bead blasted. Cost was $65 for two rims. Then after spending a weekend polishing one rim 300 then 600, then 1200 grit and using a buffing wheel my wife said I should go out and just buy new rims.
