Yesterday morning there was a trail of rust colored liquid under my Vette.
I looked under the drivers side door and there was a hole about a 1/2 -1 inch
in diameter in the underside of the car....I can see some insulation
material in there but not much else.
Any idea where the rust came from?
Sorry guys ( and ladies) but I am NO mechanic.

Note: The hole is in the underbody..not in the door panel.
Sounds like your floor padding is showing...better patch it up andf dry it out before it starts to rot and stink. You are getting water up there somehow and the padding is turning it rust color.
There should be a plug where that hole is, for instance if you remove your seats and carpet and the insulation you will see to holes,it is used as a drain to drain out water if it was to get into the car, Thats what they are there for. The plug is made from steal and they can and do rust you said there is a hole there maybe your plug has rusted away and now water has gotten into the hole and mixed with some of the rust that was left over..... :seeya
