I had a question from my Nephew a few minutes ago, he owns a 93 base model, and wanted to know if the keyless entry was a standard feature in 93 or was it only on certian models. He only has a key for his 93, but was wondering if the car was equiped with keyless entry so he could buy a the FOB for it? Would it show in the RPO codes?
It system may not work like mine or didn't want to pay 150 bucks to replace it and 60 bucks to get it programed
why or how could you pay 60 bucks to get it programed. the instructions are in the owners manual, and on the internet if you looked hard enough. and they are very easy to follow. when I bought my 94 it did not come with any remotes. went out and bought one made it work. used it for about 2 weeks until I realized how annoying they are. but now I got 2 FOBs
You can get slightly used fobs from several sources on
e-bay for $30-60. I bought several for my Pathfinder
over the years.
And I've looked into adapting something to '87 'vette,
and the door latch circuitry is downright weird. I'm a
EE and have spend probably eight hours going over
the schematics in the FSM trying to figure out a SIMPLE
way to do it. Every solution has involved cutting wires
and inserting relays to avoid the possibility of blowing a
fuse if the fob said do oine thing and the switches said
do the other.

Was standard starting in 93, you can buy new fobs on eBay, fob specilaty stores, and I think one or two of the forum vendors. You can get a new one for 130 or less. Before you spend the money do two things:
1. run through the programming steps as much as you can (instructions are in the users manual) without a fob to determine that is appears your in car components are still working right (sometimes the "receiver" goes out).
2. read the description of how it works in the users manual and make sure the PKE functionality sounds OK. As posted above some people buy the fob and then decide they do not like it. Personally, I would prefer a traditional function, but I like the PKE better than just keys. Read all the instructions to make sure you understand how to turn the system "on" and "off".
