made some progress on the 84
well i finally made a little bit of progress on the 84. i first started by removing the old throttle body to air cleaner gaskets and cleaning each throttle body and gasket area. i then replaced the throttle body to air cleaner gaskets. i ended up replacing the plugs with a new set of NGK UR4's. the wires were old and rotten so a new set of msd's went on there in place of the packard brand wires that were curently residing on the engine. i repaired a ground and fixed a connection at what appeared to be a capacitor. i replaced the pcv valve, hoping i would no longer have any amount of oil inthe air cleaner housing. also i found that the battery cable "bolts" were rusty and i replaced those as well.

Congrats! That is one benefit of winter, it gives you time to do all the little piddly things that you usually skip if it's good driving weather. It may be small stuff but your car is better now than before. And I'm sure you have a whole lot more on the "to do" list.
If I wasn't such a packrat maybe the Vette would be inside so I could twiddle with it. One half of our garage is taken up by a '66 Chevy truck I'm going to restore "some day" (been in there about 20 years ) The other half has our son's race car, the snowblower, generator, and an incredible amount of junk and stuff.

it does. everything is coming together slowly. with 37K miles you'd figure the car would be like brand new but its got a lot of time sitting and that means a lot of things that need attention. i'm plucking away slowly and i'm learning a lot along the way!

Yeah, I'm doing some plucking myself...no better way to get to know your car

You might be a Corvette owner if you take pictures of your new PCV valve and post them on the internet for others to enjoy.
Once you had her that far apart, you should have popped the valve covers off for a fresh shot of paint.

i actually had the valve covers off a few weeks ago and replaced the valve cover gaskets with a nice set of silicone moroso gaskets. i'm hoping to repaint or powdercoat the valve covers to the original color specs at some point.
