I put my car in a show yesterday in Ft.Myers. It was sponsored by Tru Flava Urban Sporstwear. When I got there to register I found that out. I thought to myself, this is going to be a long day, as I looked out over the parking lot and saw about 15 ricers and 10 SUV,s slammed with 20's and huge stereos. Oh well I'm here and nothing else to do. So I register and there is no box to check to put my car in a sportscar class. Just SUV, cars w/18-19 in. wheels, cars w/ 16-17 in. wheels, exotics, and 4x4's. So I ask the guy what class I would be in, he said exotic???? Okay, no problem. A lot of the older people would stop and look at my car, ask questions, and what not. All the young kids would walk right by it and not even look at it. I guess because it didnt have t.v.'s in it and stickers all over it. 3 hours later judging starts and I walked around and I had the only Vette there, 7 SUVs, 3 4x4's, and enough rice to cure the world hunger problem. So I'm thinking cool, I will win a trophy for sure, which ironically all had corvettes on the top. 2 more hours go by and they start handing out trophies, what did I get? Not a damn thing. :mad By now I'm pretty well fed up with hearing all this bass and car alarms all day long. The 5 or 6 ricers that were parked by my car started to have some sort of burnout contest. I started laughing at them spinning their front tires, and told them that what they are doing barely qualifies as a burnout. So I got in my car and told them to watch the right way to do one. I did a brake stand for a second, let of the brake ever so slightly and left two stripes with my 315's from one end of the parking lot to the other. So that was about the only satisfaction I got out of the whole day. That and I did get a couple really good pictures of 3 of the bikini models in their thongs all over my car too. Will post pics soon. Sorry this is so long, but I had to vent. I know who had the best car there.:D
So, you didn't win anything, so what? We all know ricers are a piece of crap and if all you're looking for is an award, compete in a Corvette only show where if you don't place, at least your ride will be appreciated by those who know. I just laugh at rice, I mean who cares ?? nothing pisses those guys off more than them pulling up to you at a light with that stupid plastic wing that's 5 feet to high for the car and you just look over and laugh ! So what ?!
Show for the fun of it, not the prize. If you think you would have won in a show full of Vettes, that is GREAT. To win best of show surrounded by crap is an empty victory. You're better off without. Hey, if nothing else, it makes a good story. I enjoyed it !!
 :seeya
Sorry to hear about your experience, but it sounds like you were at the wrong “type” of show anyway.
On a lighter note…..we participated in the Chevy Vettefest in Chicago this weekend. All of the Corvetteforum.com members from the “Vettewrench booth” won awards. I took home a Gold Spinner Concourse award with my ZR-1 (my first shiner show). There are a bunch of pics posted in the Great Lakes section http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zeroforum?id=43.
i agree, you where at the wrong type of show.i know the feeling,go to a vette show with a c4 class, not a peoples choice.i went to 2 peoples choice and won
nothing.a 67 427 vert won the 1st,and a 54 won the 2nd show.
how iam i supposed to compete with that, now if they had a c4 class i think i might have gotten somewhere.
You should have gone to a Whitley show - you pay $35 entry fee and are virutally guaranteed a trophy. They make a class for each car - you would have been in the "94 Corvette class". I was in the "93 Honda Civic Hatchback class", and being the only car in my class, I got a 1st place trophy. However, the judge did say I had the cleanest (i.e. non-dirty) car he had ever seen. And yes, there were other civics, 92-00, who had no more than 3 cars in each class. One guy was in the "Stock 2000 Chevy Silverado class". Give me a break... :smash: :smash:
I haven't made my mind up about car shows yet. I don't mind going and looking, but to enter and just hang around hoping for some votes. I guess it would depend on if it was a participant judged show or a spectator judged show. Too many clicks around in the voting. But I really enjoy looking and driving to the different locations.

Re: (rant) Car Shows (JPLT1)
I live in N. Ft. Myers and didn't know about the show. I go to shows to lookand haven't shown my Ruby at any. If I had known, I probably would have been there and stopped by to chat.
I’ve gotten 2 the point where I only go 2 car shows as a spectator, I don’t enter any of my rides anymore. Some shows are 2 long any way and after U’ve seen the same rides (rice or otherwise) it gets 2 be a bit 2 much. I just go and look around se what the venders have and roll out. Can’t spend a nice day @ some boring car show with so many other things that I can get into. :D
you were in the wrong show. i do 10 or so corvette only shows per year. i only do corvette only shows. people at those shows can appreciate what you have. shows for all types of cars and trucks are fun to see but thats it. ricer shows are all abunt how you can alter and mangle the origional look of your car. i think you even get points for having that bird bath thing bolted to the back of your car. corvettes dont have to be changed to look good. they are perfect the way they came.
I'm glad I live in an area where most kids still know what a real sports car with real muscle behind it. I'm always horrified when I travel to warmer regions of the country and see the amount of rice that is around, especially in LA and the San Jose valley. There is some scary ricers out there
we have some good shows around here... they have good quality stuff, for the most part. sure, the ricers show up. but they are not the controlling force. not yet at least.
perhaps in a few years they will be, but it does'nt look that way.
I participate in quit a few different shows, my work schedule permitting. Ive gone to all Vette shows also. My only gripe about this show is, if you put me in the "exotic" class, there had better be some exotics. I dont mind not winning a trophy, but to lose to some ricers with vinyl graphics, huge two tier wings and chrome wheels that probably wiegh as much as the car itself dosent make sense to me. I do enjoy shows and will probably be in another one in two weeks in Ft. Myers again. This one is a Harley and classic car show. I know my car isnt a classic, but if I can, I will still most likely enter it.:) Like I said before, I just had to vent a little.:D Now I feel much better.
you have a nice car... no doubt... perhaps you need to find the types of shows that cater to the needs of the American car owner.
We have a big show here in the big town of Dover once a year at the local Pepboys. A number of different cars show, about 100 in all... and only about 10 or so imports. this area has imports, but they really don't show themselves much for some reason. and the ones that are here are poor examples... very poor. the import show is the stereo sound off...
