Default Temp Gauge Sensor

I reacently bought an 87 Vette but notice the temp sensor coming out of the head behind the oil stick seems to have a wire with a little connector on the end but not connected to anything. Does anyone know where this should connect to?

On my 89 the temp sensor is on the front of the motor above the waterpump. You may be looking at the knock sensor?

Is temp gauge sensor
You are looking for the green wire that comes up from below out of the harness that runs to the knock sensor and starter.

Sensor at front is coolant temp sensor ( CTS ) for temp input to computer ; not sender for temp gauge

There is a small harness that runs down to the starter motor.
Contains the starter solenoid wire (heavy purple? ) the knock sensor wire and the temp gauge wire
