I know I've asked this before, but the winters coming to an end and me and my dad are putting it into high gear to try and find the parts we need.
What im looking for is a Dana 44 IRS from a C4 to swap into my 88 auto. problem is, I've called all the salvage yards and went on car-parts.com, and have had no luck. All i've seen are used D36's. ANyone have any leads or good websites thats I may be able to find something on?
Have you looked in the C4 parts for Sale section? Almost always one listed there. Recently there was an article in Chevy Hi Po about Zip Products rebuilding the 36 stronger than the 44. Have you looked at that option? Seems it would be an easy fix if it was cost effective.
Yeah, i did see that article. They rebuilt their D36 unit, but a D44 is still stronger. Im worried about the shape of my D36 as well. it's getting to the point where the rear end sways when you get on/off the gas at higway speeds, and theres a horrible crunching/scraping noise. I'm half expecting a case full of dust when i take it out.
Im still not sure of power goals, but I do drive my car pretty hard, and I'd rather overbuild it then have to keep rebuilding it.
