I get 14-15 mpg around town in my 94 auto with 3.07 gears. 24-26 on the highway
My 96 LT1 auto with 3.07 gears and regular octane fuel it gets instantly 22-26 highway and with 50/50 city/highway I average 19-21 depending on driving style, traffic, and how many red lights I hit... Mostly see 19mpg on my average...
Early C4 models, per my experience, were not the most spirited in performance nor in gas mileage. I had an 89 that did not get over 20 MPG. I had a 95 LT1 that would get 22. Now my 2000 C5 will click off 24 to 28 on the road all the time. It is the gearing and the engine management.
I've seen 30 MPG on my digital dash multiple times depending on how I drive. I've managed to record it with my digital camera just by chance. I think this was going over 70 MPH in overdrive. Click video below.
I stayed in the high 20's on a 1 1/2 hour trip. But occasionally it goes over 30 for some time like here.
My 87 automatic/3:07s runs 29 to 30 at the legal limit. Two qualifications:
There is no city driving in this,I have to drive 50 miles to get to the closest small city, and this is in Imperial gallons
So make that 23-24 mpg.U.S.
On my car the dash read out is not particularly accurate either in m.p.g. or in L.per 100 km.

Just picked up about a 22% improvement in my '89 this weekend by buying a full tank of 87 octane WITHOUT ethenol. Live in the Central Florida area and there is 1 distributor (that I know of) that still supplies straight unleaded in all grades and octanes. Yea, paid .28cents more a gallon, about $5.00 more per tank but go figure. Engine is basically still stock with new(Aug. 2008) 24 lb Bosch III from Jon. I'll pay the difference all week long. Was averaging between 17.7 and 18.5. Now the running average over 22 and up to 24.1
It all depends on how and where you drive. A few years ago on a trip from DC to Seattle I averaged 27 mpg as calculated when I filled her up. This is my daily driver and I get 18 mpg sitting in rush hour traffic every day. I work just under 18 miles from home and it takes me 45 mins on average for my commute. That's a lot of stop and go. I have the automatic with 2.5x gears (can't remember exact ratio). When I'm in overdrive I have to go 80mph before I hit 2,000 RPMs.

I forgot to mention I have over 185,000 miles on the clock
