Engine on the C5 is easier to work on believe it or not;with the LSx youll probably never have to they are super reliable and tough to break.
Lighter, quicker etc. Unless youre in love with the body of the C4 and you could afford a C5 the answer is the Z06. Wide range of choices, from a 6-8k car to a 20k+ one?

Man, you made it TOO easy! That would have been about the same as walking in to a hospital and punching some guy in the ICU.

I would rather take a 92-96 C4 over a regular C5 (coupe or non-Z) if I was buying today (vs. early 2001 when I bought mine), but I would definately take the Z06 C5 over any C4.......great looks with more power......my neighbor has a commerative 04 Z06.....great looking ride with great power.....my car and his run neck and neck....lots of fun (at the track of course)

The powertrain other then clutch hydraulics is pretty bullet proof on the c5. But the C5 zo6 is showing some pretty bad age related problems with nasty water leaks which are hell to repair ie the fixed roof and other spots. Pm my friend about his thoughts on this compared to his last vette which was a modded 96 lt4. The new one is really keeping him busy compared to his late c4. His user id is listed on my public profile page.

As for the other part, the water leaks aren't age related. Chev did a job of weatherstripping the roof. It took all of half an hour and a tube of silicone to fix the problem on mine.

The car didnt leak out of the box and has started to leak once the sealant has aged and shrunk and cracked out. It will take more then a tube of silicon to seal his up. His roof will have to come off he has tried your fix. It is just not leaking where you can get the tube to it. Has your upper window trim cracked out yet letting in water? How about your door hinges? Did your late c4 have these problems. I bet not.

Im not going to start a internet match. Im just giving the gentleman starting this thread info to talk to someone owning one of these cars and what can happen in I guess a worst case.

Imo: C4(lt4) > c5............c5 z06 > c4 Keep in mind that there is a substantial price gap tho...

You have a far different experience with C4s than most. If you get a C4, you'll get lots of wrench time.

OK, so if he wants his opinion to be known he should post it. There are only a few hundred people who post here who have owned both C4s and C5s.

Be sure to take pictures when your friend takes the roof off. There are about 4 places that Z06s have been known to leak and none of them require removal of the roof. (A-pillars, window moldings, upper windshield, front cowl) You do realize that the roof doesn't just come off... right?

I'm not arguing this anymore, especially with somebody who doesn't even own the car. Although I have to ask out of morbid curiosity... what do door hinges have to do with ANYTHING water related?

I went through the same quandry. I'm old and tall (6 ft 5/195 lbs) and I fit better in the C4 than in the C5 Z06. If the C5 Z06 had the telescoping wheel it might be easier to fit in and find a comfortable position behind the wheel. Interior styling is an individual matter, and if you live in a hot area, your passenger will like the air vents on the C4 since it gets the air right on you. Changing the battery on a C4 is not much fun either! Hard to beat the C4 for bang for the buck.

C5Z is a way better car than any C4, including LT4's (I have one) and ZR1's. More power, less weight, better chassis, better interior, better suspension.
