This feels funny asking newbie questions after having my '70 for the last 4 years and knowing so much about it....
But, How do I install the CAGS Eliminator harness? I take it most of you have done that?
If you buy it from Ecklers or midAmerica, it comes with a nice pic. Very simple. You just disconnect from the tranny and plug the adapter in its place. My 1-4 light still comes on but I throw no codes. Once jacked up, its a 5 minute job.
He's right. You could just unplug the clip, but it throws a code (stupid cars). :) All the "eliminator" does is simulate the resistance that the CAGS soeinoid produces and the computer thinks its still hooked up. Good luck.
Eric, you will love the 96!! Also, the LT4 is fabulous. I would recommend buying the service manuals. Those things hae everything you would want to know and more. :D
I know I am going to have lots of questions, that all of you have already been through...I don't want to sound too stupid when I post...but I probably will !!!
I put the CAGS eliminator on my 96 coupe shortly after it was new. I got it from Mid America I think. It had the resistor (or whatever it is) hanging off the side of it. That feature is not provided for the CAGS eliminator for pre-96 Vettes. Anyway, after installing it, the shift light does not come on, and it does NOT set a code. It works just like a fully manual transmission would be expected to work.
