Stuck Ring?? Please Help!

Stuck Ring?? Please Help!
My 84 burns oil when driven hard. I add a quart every 700 miles or so. If i baby her she is fine. My mechanic says it looks like i have a stuck ring but he said it would probably do more harm then good to attempt a repair. He said as long as i add oil regularly it's no big deal. Is this true or iam i going to do damage in the long run?? ny feedback would be appreciated.

In "the long run" you are going to have to repair it. Obviously it is not going to get better. I would be afraid of the ring breaking or scoring to the point that you are going to look like a fog machine going down the road. I would not want to have to sleeve a cylinder because the wall is scored to deep for a bore.

Considering i get no smoke at all unless i am really driving her hard and then only on the initial punch of the accelerator do you think i should have it repaired or just leave well enough alone for now????
