Has anyone ever replaced their shifter surround plate on a 1995,if so did you have any problems getting the shift boot off, does the shift **** have to come off.
The shift know will not clear the opening. It has to come off. You didn't say if this was an auto or manual transmission ?
If It's auto, Pry the shift button off with a couple of screwdrivers. you will then need to remove the snap ring hooding the know on. You will need a pair of snap ring pliers. You can get these at any auto store. Once you get the snap ring off, Wiggly the **** side to side while pulling up at the same time. It may come off easily or, may take some pulling depending on how long it's been on. Good luck
stick or automatic, the **** will have to come off.
Like stated above, on an automatic, pry out the button, remmove snap ring with snap ring pliers and the **** comes off.
For a manual, pry out the shift pattern button, take a small pair of vise grips and clamp on to the "T" wedge and use a hammer to gently tap the vise grips in an upward fashion removing the wedge. then the shift **** will screw off.
I cheat when I do mine. I ease the cover up a little bit and take out the 4 phillips screws that hold the shifter boot on from the bottom. It only takes a few seconds and I don't have to mess with the dam spring clip. Mine is an A4.
