I just bought this car and the person before me had an aftermarket stereo. He put the stock stereo back in it which does not work. He had trimmed the bezel around the stereo he had in it, I was curious if an aftermarket stereo is wider than the stock stereo in that car?
Are there any odd things with this car when installing an aftermarket or is it the same as any other car where I get the wiring harness and the install kit and stick it in?
Will it fit a double din easily? Please lemme know!
I depends upon how much stuff he took off or disconnected. Check for the amplifier in the pass. side storeage compartment. Also check the speakers to see if they were changed or adapted. You probably still have the harness stuffed back down the radio compartment. There are so many different size radio's out there it's hard to say. Unless you want the factory sytem, you'd probably be ahead going with aftermarket, just the parts to get the Bose going would be several hundred dollars. If the installer knows what he's doing, the aftermarket set up should fit right in, and look correct.
From doing some research, the Vette is particular with non stock radios and radio components such as amps and speakers... I would try and keep the stock system and just fix it... Thats what I would do... good luck!
I installed a double-DIN JVC in my -92 last year, more or less a direct fit, no trimming. Bought a Peripheral SVEN4 interface (Ebay) to the Bose speakers and a SVHGM2 harness adapter. Works very good!

ive looked all through this car and the guy before me made a hell of a mess. It looks like I will have to completely rerun the system to make it right. I am gonna put in some nice speakers and run a small amp to them, im gonna have to completely delete the factory system, amp and all.
he made a horrible box for the drivers front speaker, anyone know if they make custom fit boxes for the footwells in these cars?

Yes it fits... minor modification and you have a "factory look" system.
It lets you use an aftermarket stereo unit with your Bose speakers/amplifiers. When I bought it on Ebay some time ago it was called SVEN4 and made by Peripheral, now it seems to be called OEM-2 and made by PAC...
