Check Engine Light?
I have an 86 vette and anytime i cruise on the freeway with cruise control on for a while the check engine light comes on. When I turn the car off and start it again it goes off??? What is wrong?

Umm its hard to say I havent driven it in a while because its winter
But if I remember right I think it still comes on if I hold the pedal at the same place over a longer period of time. It doesn't come on when I am on and off the gas alot though

You do need to pull the codes. My guess on an 86 will be a code 32 EGR failure. The CEL will come on, and then go off when you restart, but the code will be stored. The diagnostics on a code 32 are quite extensive.While I'm not an advocate of throwing parts at the problem, I would first try an EGR switch.That was the cause with my 86. It's cheap and not that hard to replace. Pull the codes and let us know.
