My '91 is leakin' again after having it replaced about 5 years ago. What is the best gasket to go with and are there any additional procedures/sealents that are recommended. I know this is a common issue with L-98s but, I would like to make sure the job is done with the right materials, etc.
How is it leaking? Air, oil, coolant? If it is the infamous rear oil leak, you'll have to remove everything. Try re-torqueing the bolts first. I use Felpro gaskets.
If tightening doesn't help and you replace the gasket, put Permatex on the bolts. This will hold them in place and prevent coolant from leaking thru the mounting holes.
I have the same problem with mine i need to do it when i get back to the states, will it work if I just tork it down? My luck ill have to pull the whole thing off.
OK here's what i did the mating surface on the neckis warped. I pulled it off and took a block of wood ( 2x4) and wrapped sandpaper around it and sanded the mating surface untill it was totally flat. Have not had it leak since .... :flag
