Hey Sarge why did you ask him when the last time he filled up was? You are referring to gas and not the oil change right? Just curious. Always learning new stuff here...

Because a lot of times the gas cap will throw a code. It has on my STS, it just did last week on my Son's MC SS. It did on my Durango.
if that thing is not seated correctly, or properly tightened it will do it on the OBDII systems. It will take it a while to come on and then take it a while to go off, when corrected. Of course if a person has a code reader they can tell real quick.
i filled up about 2 or 3 weeks ago tank shows 3/4 full and i always put the highest octane from shell or exxon.
sorry for the newb question but how to i pull and get the codes?
thanks fellas!!
There is a way to check for codes by grounding the pins but I have never done it. I have code readers for my cars. You can do a search on how to do it. I looked briefly but nothing jumped out at me.
If you can't find it here, try Google. It's pretty simple.
You have a 96, so you can use a code reader (OBDII)... If you dont have one, maybe you should invest in one $100 for a decent one $200 for one with a live data scanner and so on... Or you can take it to a local pepboys, atuozone, etc and they will test for free, just bring a pen and paper and dont let them sell you anything yet...
The port is right below the steering wheel and dash, it looks like a trapazoid

looked for a line disconnected or kinked but no luck. somebody suggest it may be the O2 sensor that needs to be replaced but how would i know for sure? also where exactly is the air pump?
Check the C5 tech section (I know, I know... )
Had the same thing happen (twice) on my 96, I disconnected the rubber hose leading to the check valve, sprayed a bunch of throttle body cleaner in it, and blew it through the check valve. TB cleaner shouldn't damage O2 sensor.
Good luck.
I went through this last month. It was the O2 sensor. Bank 2 = the right side. The code will also tell you what sensor it is (before the cat or after the cat.)
Its a cheap fix $35.00 and about 20 minutes. Make sure it is the O2 sensor you need before making the purchase.
Think about purchasing a code reader....I got one at Harbor Freight for $39.95.
