I just changed out the wheel hub, u-joints, strut rod bushings and cleaned and shined all the aluminum on the passenger side of my 86. Put on ebc rotors and pads and painted the caliper, caliper bracket and sway bar. So now I am looking at a very dirty driver side and I ripped it all apart and shined it up and replaced u-joints. My question is that I am 3 torx bolts away from changing this wheel bearing. There is nothing wrong with it. 80k on car. Is it a waste of money to change something that is not broke or should I go ahead and do it since I am in here? How long is the usual life span for these? I put a new Federal Mogul bearing on the other side, which cost $159. I am planning on trying autocross and taking it out on Lymerock track in CT so I guess I am thinking of changing it out. Seems I always keep digging. This car will soon be brand new.another ? while I am here. I paid $69 at autozone for a new tie rod end on the passenger side. Is this a lot. I had a hard time finding this. The catalogs all had the white box specials. The driver side has a ripped boot so I am thinking I might replace that. I can't stop. This car is a sickness. But I dig it man
It may last another 50K, and they aren't THAT hard to change. Leave it alone.
Thanks for taking the time out of your hilarious thread with the catman. It was pretty easy and I think I will spend the money elsewhere. My friend made an xmas card of him sitting on the hood of an old bronco in a santa suit being pulled by his dog as he dangled his 2 cats, which he had hung from a pole, in front of the dogs nose. I will try and find it. was laughing my *** off reading your thread

I think ol' Sweetsie will appreciate the pic....
Yep, I did all 4 bearings on my 84 because they were shot....but even the rears aren't as hard as some folks have made them out to be to change. The first was the learning curve, the second one was easy.
I'm not a big fan of replacing good parts. It's expensive enough replacing the bad ones.
