I just purchased my Dad's 91 Vette from him and besides needing new tires, I have a audio problem. It has the Bose system with tape deck. I was planning on replacing the headunit soon, but until then I was going to use my IPOD and tape adapter. Problem is when playing the radio or anything through the tape deck, it has a really loud hissing noise. I know nothing about car audio, but I was wondering is this hissing noise is a sign the amp is bad? Anything I can do myself?

If the radio is clear, probably means the heads are dirty on the tape deck or the CDM is bad.
CDM gets 1 signal from radio and another from the tape deck, clean the tape heads, I am betting on dirty heads. If that doesn't work, the CDM is bad.

Hello Surfer
It makes the hissing sound on both the tape player and the radio.

Ok now the fun part. Take the covers off your speakers. Get a ol;d or new speaker head and put it in the place of one of the speaker outlet. And the fade and blance till only that speaker is on. If it still hissing then it the amps and you are looking at around $300 - $150 to replace all amps.
