Default First drive!

A decent day, sunny and 49 degrees, and I was giving the truck a bath. Could not find a couple towels I use. Where were they? Meantime I hear the guy across the street fire up his Harley for the first time this spring.

Might have left them in the Vette, so I spent a while taking the snow off the cover. Took the cover off from the back enough to get inside, but figured all the small bits of snow on the cover should be removed so I took the cover all the way off. You can see where this is going already, right?

So the towels were not there, but now the Vette is uncovered, driveway and roads are dry, plates and insurance stayed on all winter. How could I resist? Finishing washing the truck can wait! Unplugged the demand charger, fired it up, and took a 2-mile drive around the neighborhood.

SO - I no longer have to listen to Friz rub it in that he went for a Vette ride today, and in fact I think he's in sandblast season so maybe I can drive while HIS sits. And I think the cat is still in hibernation so I'm ahead of HIM!

Life is good!

Yep, me too, went out last evening for about 15 miles.

Verts back in the garage, under the cover again now

Soon Don, I'm starting to wake up, but that flea bitten furry varmit will never give you (us) that satisfaction

Good point, and it was hard to keep it short. But I've got a whole mess of stuff to cram into a few days off and I'm trying to stay focused. Got to empty two rooms so new carpet can be installed, the truck has a belt tensioner or an idler pulley making noise, and I have work-related stuff to do on the computer (thereby allowing me to pop in here a few times).

Don't worry, a longer cruise will be coming soon, and the wife was just suggesting a visit to our daughter in Tennessee, with a stop at the NCM thrown in. Trouble is, with our unpredictable Yankee weather next week could go up to 70, or we could get 2 feet of snow. We're not out of the woods yet but that first drive helps my morale big time!

I finally got to take the Vette out for a drive on Saturday. I wound up going for about a 120 mile drive. I just couldn't go on a short drive after not driving it for the whole month of February. It looks like you've been busy. I hope you get to go on a longer drive soon.

Congrats on the first outing Don....good to see you northern guys starting to awaken.

And yes....sandblast season is already starting. Been very windy the last couple of days....same expected for Wed....BUT, it's supposed to move out on Thu and we're looking at mid 70's for the weekend.

The Vette is staying in the garage though....this is MOTORCYCLING weather! We're planning to ride somewhere this weekend...haven't settled on where yet. Woohoo!!

He ALWAYS finds a way to rub it in!

Just took a jaunt to the grocery store and the smile is still on my face - even Friz can't rain on that!

Gotta say, it's too bad I made the acquaintance of "the cat" AFTER our trip last year - we were as close as Calgary and could have met up. Hey Friz - is the NCM about halfway between Texas and western NY state?

I think we need to plan a CF "agitators and instigators" mini-convention!

East Texas is....I'm closer to Los Angeles than Houston. The CF "A&I" meet would be a hoot. They'd never let us come back, but we'd have a blast in the meantime.

Good to see someone in Rochester has taken their car out already. Hope to find one soon so I can start enjoying it to. Like you said tho, it could be 50* one day and then a few feet of snow the next, gotta love winters around here.

Midnoght - Well, like I said I didn't set out to take it for a ride, but after about 4 months it's kind hard to resist! Once I got the cover off it was all over!

Victor - I work there sometimes. Get yours from Turners? They have a good selection and are quite creative in arranging them on the lot. The other day they had about 12 in a row and every other one was red.

Friz, the miles just melt away. Point it northeast and just keep a'driving!

Default Move to Indiana forces early 1st ride in 96 Collector Coupe

March 1st through the 5th I put 220 miles on her. I knew I was moving to Indiana permanantly on the 6th so I left my Saturn Ion Redline in Indiana on the 28th of Feb. and had my wife follow me in the 2006 Mustang Convertible which got me back home. Rather than be stranded I had a friend ride me to my mothers (shes 80) where my vette is stored. During the week off I rode her to the Saturn Dealer (soon to be a Chevy Dealer) where I asked if I could take out a white 2008 Manual Corvette Convertible in white that was in their used car lot. Salesman was surprised when I came back and told him it wasn''t as substantially different from my old 96. I thought the clutch disengaged too high up (almost all the way up) from the floor. Was my 1st ride ever in a C6 (never ever drove in a C5). Experience made me think maybe a C6 vert is all I need vs a Z06.The Penske truck which I rode one way to Indiana used 21 gallons to ride 210 miles compared to my vettes 15 gallons to get the 220 miles. Vette still stuck in Michigan in moms garage til someone can drive me back to Michigan to drive her to Indiana. Hope you don't think I'm trying to steal your tread. Enjoy your car and of course, avoid the puddles.

Haha yea but anytime out in a Vette is worth it. When Bill let's me take one out to a cruise night I just cruise and truely enjoy being out in one.

I actually work for Turner and am the one that arranges the lot , just re-did it today and washed them all off. I'm still looking, but I am checking one out this weekend. If it falls through then I'll just wait and see what we get at work. I see your user name, do you work for the insulators and park the cargo containers behind our shop?

Well, we keep the locomotive at the Insulator plant but we're a separate company. And yes, I put those boxcars there! Welcome to the forum and you're working in a good place to snag a good Vette!

Dunno which is better, getting paid for driving Vettes or getting paid to run trains!
