I had my 1996 front bumper/front end painted because of a scratch and little touch up bumps. The dealer did do a great job and it's good as long as I own the Vette. I also had the emblems replaced with new ones. The previous emblems were good, but not great. I'm really happy with replacing them with new badges. The price was half of what the local Vette shop wanted to do it for. I'm sure they would have done a wonderful job, but now I have some funds left towards leather seat covers or a Corsa exhaust system.
$570.55 for paint. $695.07 out the door for paint and emblems. I got a bid for $1000 from a local Corvette shop (just for paint). I'm extremely happy, but now I have to wait three months before I can put wax on the new paint. How am I going to survive that? Oh well, the rest of the car will be waxed, anyway. I'm thinking that I should hold off putting the cover on for three months, too. I'm not sure why, but I think the Corvette goes faster and is more aggressive after you repaint a bumper! The name of the Chevrolet dealer is Rinke in Center Line, Michigan. They do sell a ton of Vettes and have more experience than most places with our cars. What I appreciate most is that they will stand by the paint job for as long as I own it.

I'm no scientist (i can even spell it right, I think) but paint needs a few weeks to cure, harden. Something in the molecular structure (there I go using big words again) of the paint needs to do whatever it needs to do. But, I heard from a guy, who knows a guy, who knows a guy, who knows a guy, who knows a guy, who knows a guy (any spongebob friends out there?) who knows a guy, that said no waxing new paint, for a few weeks. Hey they did a GREAT job on that bumper. Also FWIW, the reason you can't wax new paint for three months is because it takes that long to fully cure. Ya gotta let that clear breath! If you wax it while it is curing, you will trap wax in there permanently and the bumper will eventually start to chalk up on you. I used to use a product called Race Glaze to polish new paint jobs after we color sanded and it was safe for new paint. It did a great job. Dunno if they still make it but check with your dealer first if you get the itch to polish that nice new bumper.
