Default Overprotective obsessions?

There's a thread working now about the various morons at service shops and tire places who jack cars wrong, take unneeded "test drives" and other general disrespect. Amazing the dummies out there!

However, and this may come as a shock to some there are some Corvette owners who can be total azzoles. Here are a few true examples courtesy of a friend who used to work at a dealership.

How about the guy who went off on the service manager because the lot jockey who brought his car around was a bit overweight. Claimed the employee distorted his seat!

Another one dropped off his Vette and because they knew he was a bit obsessive they left it just outside the door until a slot opened up inside. A couple hours later a light shower went through. The guy called up, asked where his Vette was, and when they said right where it was left, he went absolutely BONKERS. The car had NEVER seen rain and they were IDIOTS to leave it outside and he was NEVER coming back etc!

And last, one guy dropped his Vette off for a warranty issue. I don't recall what my friend said was the exact issue, but it made a strange noise when turning, stopping, or some thing like that. When he picked it up, he was livid - the odometer showed someone had DRIVEN it!!! It had about 4 miles MORE than when he dropped it off. They tried to tell him well, sure, the tech took it out to try to hear the noise he was complaining about. The guy would not hear of it - only HE could drive it, NOBODY else was supposed to drive it....

SO - anybody else got stories about nutty Corvette owners? Or want to agree with the owners in the above cases?

No extreme examples, but we can get a little bit obsessive about our cars..Hell, I get real upset when Im out driving and it starts to rain..When Im out at a restaurant I always park where I can see my car from a window seat.To have new tires mounted, I take the wheels off at home and only take them , not the car, to the tire shop. Should I go on.?..I consider myself ****, not obsessive.....WW

They should only drive it if it relates to the work being performed. That goes for all my vehicles, no joyrides.

Agreed! In this case though, the problem "noise" had not been defined or identified, but that was the REASON the car was at the dealer. The tech did not joyride, but took the car out in a logical attempt to locate the cause of the complaint. And even when told that, the guy STILL was PO'd.

Some guys would rather have someone else take their wife for a test ride than their Corvette!

Not much, it was old and gray and had issues. But I'm sure it went to a good home.

Working for a Corvette shop I learned real quick about how some Corvette owners can be. For most people it has been a long time dream to own one of these cars so I can understand people being very protective over there car.

I'm not sure if I'm obsessive or stupid. When my BIL from Calgary visits with his '68 Firebird, we shove my wife's FX45 out of the garage and park his car next to my Vette when it begins to rain.

I took mine in for a simple tire rotatation and oil change at the local dealership here to save me some time. 8 hours later they call me at work, and say its ready. I get there, and the tech's had played NASCAR / INDY pit stop with it. The wheels & caps were severly scatched by the air gun...and not just a little ooop's here or there...it was bad! I wish I had taken picture's to show you ....just how bad they were.

I called out the manager, long story short....the dealership replaced all 4 wheels & cap's with new, broke them down and high speed balanced them at No Charge! They even let me keep the marred wheels and caps. All's good right?....But wait there's more.....

Now, the best part! Post my replacement wheel trip, I lost 12 of my lug nut cap's on the way home. Needless to say.... I was livid. They made good on that as well...but............I have never been back, and never will. Today, I do all of my own....its just not worth the trouble to even think about saving some time, or have "other" do what you can do. It might take me a little longer....but well worth the effort.

I might be ****...but I would rather be ****, then go through all that crap again.

Stay in tune...

It's so sad that we have to do basically "stupiditiy prevention" since there are so many people out there that don't care at all about other peoples property. And these future generations are getting worst and worst.

Not obsessive...but disappointed:
1) how often I find that parking attendents and lot porters and even some techs CANNOT figure out how the parking brake releases - so they move it around with the parking brake left on!
2) how the awkward C4 entry exit causes many people to run the sole of their shoes across door panels etc. Some of the skid marks on the door panels are hard to clean off.
3) related to number 2; that service departments usually only place one disposable paper floor mat in the wrong place to make any difference. Or that they only cover half the seat with a disposable seat cover. What are they thinking?
4) I do an incredible amount of my own work - but there are some things that call out for a shop. I've often felt that some techs were sloppy on purpose, like they were proud to give the car back to the customer with new scuff marks in the paint, etc. I once had my car in the shop and a lazy tech had dragged a gritty air hose across the hood leaving a huge mark from one side to the other - he did admit to it, and they later had the entire hood repainted because it was too deep to buff out. When I pointed it out to the service writer he said he had noticed the damage too, but he gave me no warning about it before giving my car back to me. The pisser about that is that at an NCRS show my car had nice enough factory paint to be considered for a paint award.

When my car was under warranty I had the following items damaged by the service department: the steering wheel was somehow sliced by a tech, same thing happened to the shifter ****, the center console and radio surround received surface damage somehow. There was more, but I've forgotten over time. All because of carelessness, all were replaced by the dealership. It was always a dissappointment to know it would probably be a crapshoot if they damaged something else while the car was in for warranty work. They always treated me very nicely, I never yelled or made a scene, and they always made good on any damage - but still.

I was impressed the last time I was in for tires that the tech wanted to pop the hood release and both doors before he would lift the car - he said he knew the C4s needed more care when lifting. So there are careful techs out there.

I think if you want freedom to be that **** about stuff (and I am), then learn how to do the stuff yourself, buy the right tools, and DEFINITELY take tires and wheels in loose. that eliminates the issues.
