Default no start - need help

Had my car car stored for the winter without a trickle charger, it was in a location with no power, I unhooked the positive cable. After a month or two we went back to start it and it won't start. put battery charger, car has power, but will not start, tried banging the starter, checked fuses, and a boost, still nothing. Any ideas??????? Car is at home now and still wont start.

Thank you: ack:

It's a 1993 ruby coupe.

what are the symptoms? Does it turn over? Or not even that? Have you tried some starter fluid? Does it throw codes? What does the security display do? Did you check and clean all the battery/starter connections?

no light on dash except radio and heater and security light flashing it will only turn over when you bang starter and cross it, key will not turn it over, we cleaned all that stuff

sounds like a security issue, especially with the security light flashing at you

Take the battery out, charge it fully with a charger, and then load test it (Autozone will do it for free). Or just try a known good battery out of another car. I suspect it's bad after sitting for so long and allowed to fully discharge. The jumper cables may not be giving it enough juice to crank over. It would be quite unusual (though not impossible) for the security system to fail with the car just sitting over the winter.

I'm going with a bad batt as well. At least that's where I would start. For a car to be running when you shut it down for the winter and then not crank up sounds like juice problems to me.

But I guess stranger things have happened.

It's not the battery, we hooked the car directly to a running truck with boosters, from the car terminals to the truck.

Which doesn't give the starter anywhere near the amperage of a fresh battery. Remove, charge, and load test. I wouldn't spend another 30 seconds troubleshooting anything until I had fully ruled out a bad battery. If your battery has sulfated and now has an internally shorted cell, it is pulling a lot of the amperage from the cables that the starter would otherwise receive.

Jumper cables alone may not light it off. Put a known good battery in, ensure all connections are tight and clean (battery, solenoid, engine ground, acc terminals), and if it still won't crank, we'll start troubleshooting it.

OK...before you do anything else....the 93 uses a VATS key (1-15 resistor in key) correct? Do you have another key you can try? Alternately, clean the resitor in the key thoroughly with alcohol. Tell me if this helps.

just something simple, but did you put your key in the door, unlock with key and than try to start? if the battery died while sitting it can very easily set the alarm when it gets juice, and yes i know the horn should honk, but i have seen it happen.
