I just bought a 1989 thats been converted to a carb,I have a ? for anyone that may be able to answer, the instrument cluster still lights up bright but nothing works, could this be caused by the conversion or does it need to be rebuilt ?
I have an 84 that was also converted to card and had similar issues with my cluster. (Look at my previous threads for pics)
Converting to card should affect nothing on the cluster except for the mpg and miles to empty.
What you likely have, if it is similar to mine is that the cluster is "sunburnt." (I also have other issues with my cluster, but that is another story.) Here is a good test. Get some polarizing sunglasses. Put them on and see if you can see any of the readouts. As, I said I have other issues with my dash, but with the glasses on, I can read my fuel guage.
In theory you can buy some polarizing film and replace the bad film in the cluster. However, as my cluster is shot in other ways, I have not dug too deep in to that one.
