I will be getting new tires for my '92 this spring thru the Tire Rack. They list some local installers, a friend of mine got his rims scratched when he had his '93 tires done at a Goodyear store. Are there different types of wheel machines or something that I should ask these installers when I check them out? Looking at the Kumho's now but who knows, maybe SZ50 or AVS sport.
Jon, where did you buy it? Any pics? Will it work on 17" wheels?
I had my own a tire changer for years, but I had to get rid of it when I moved a few years ago. I'm in need of new tires soon and I cringe at the thought of trusting my car and wheels to the 17-year old chimpanzees at the tire store, but I can't really see myself spending $600 (probably more nowadays) for a tire changer again. Thanks.
The changer is 50 dollars plus 22 for shipping. Its at ontool.com. You have to bolt it to the floor. What I did was drill my garage floor inserted sleeves then bolted it to the floor with lags. With this I can remove it easily when not in use. I also took the bead breaker and welder another piece of 1 inch steel to each side to make it stronger. It will hold 17 inch tires even if it does say 16 inch truck tires.
