Default desperate for help!!!!!!

about a few days ago i found the short recurved coolant hose right in front of the throttle body leaking...i never had an idle problem before and after replacing this smal hose it idles really high after cracking and wont reduce below 1200rpms. and also had a leak from somewhere below after it seemed to have overpressurized...now im not an expert on vettes...however i think that now either the thermostat isnt working right and or the coolant sensor at the top right radiator.please somebody help me bfore i go buying a pile of parts for this thing....thx.

Did you disconnect any vacuum lines while changing the hose? Put a vacuum gauge on the engine, and tell me how many inches of vacuum you have at idle.

Check for vacuum leaks and also take the IAC (Idle Air Control Valve) out and clean it.

You can put a T fitting on any vacuum line on the intake. If no vacuum leaks, do as Sarge suggests and clean the IAC valve. The coolant temp sensor can be tested with a digital voltmeter....I don't have a service manual for an 87, but it will give you operating parameters for the sensor.

I strongly suspect a vacuum leak. This is introducing "false air" into the intake, which the ECM interprets as a lean condition and richens the mixture accordingly. More air + more fuel = more engine speed.....to a point. Huge vacuum leaks = massive fuel = stalling car and garage full of black smoke.

If you haven't done it already, the first thing you should buy for this car is the Factory Service Manual (Helm). It will be the best $75 you will ever spend on the car and will pay for itself a thousand times over in saved labor costs. They pop up cheap on eBay from time to time as well.

There is a vacum line under the TB drivers side check to make sure it didn't come off.
