I just bought a set of 1988 rims for my 1985 on Ebay. They arrived today and I noticed that you apparently need a security key tool to remove the caps from the rim which didnt come with my rims. Is this a universal type security tool I can find or am I up the creek in trying to remove the center caps off the rims?
You will most likely never find a key to match up. I had my key strip two locks on my caps. Had to get a hardened bit and drill the bolts and use easy out. Came right out.
I could not find locks so I used allen head bolts aluminum colered, and you can not see the bolts. They are not secure like a lock, however, my car is garaged and not a DD.
If this is them, then maybe one of the Corvette recyclers can provide the little wrench/key that is found in the center console or maybe a member has one laying around for sale.
I found this on Ecklers, but I am sure other vendors carry them and if you contact them they may have the key/wrench you need. I do recall someone had a link to a company that had them for sale and there was like 10 or so different styles/shapes you need to give them the number on the locking bolt head and they will ship you the one you need. Hopefully someone will chime in with that link for you.

UPDATE: I just found the company that can probably help with the lock. Here is the link to the website: http://www.mcgard.com/

One of the first things I did to my 88 was to remove the locks on the wheel caps. The bolts I used were M10-1.5x25mm Allen head bolts. The Allen head uses an 8mm key, but I use a 5/16" key as it fits fine.
