Just bought my 96 2 weeks ago. Noticed the targa top squecks a lot, especially at slow speeds over bumbs, etc. Now I have developed 3 cracks near the forward passenger side. I checked tightness of star bolts, and they were tight.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

That means you need to get a new top. You can trade it in for another rebuilt top. Melrose gets good reviews. Or you can ship Melrose your top for them to put a new lense on it with a lifetime warranty. That way is cheaper, especially if your weatherstripping is good.
What ever you do. Avoid getting an Astro Top. They are junk and Mr. Thompson who owns it is a dick.
Josh,
Since I didn't have cracks until the last week, is it possible the top is not mounted correct, and body twist is causing the cracking?

I've heard you might could get cracks if the car is not parked on a level surface. And you then tighten the top down and drive it around like that. I don't know if there is any truth to that, but it sounds like a good idea to tighten it down on a level surface.
Your top is designed to be an integral part of the Body...and flex....to say it will crack for doing what is supposed to do is not really accurate. Parking on a un level surface will not crack your top....
I had to 're-seat' my top on level ground after a muffler shop insisted I loosen it before they would put it on a lift. ( I wish they would get over that old C3 T-Top myth! )It started creaking after that so I found a level place and loosened, wiggled and re-tightened it. I wouldn't think it would make much difference, but it stopped making noise, so I guess maybe they can get into a bind if they're screwed down when the car is a little crooked. Never heard of one breaking from getting twisted, but with these cars getting older, maybe it's starting to happen now. Glue and plastic doesn't last forever, and that's a shame.
