Default Interior Door Lights

I must be going crazy. Today I noticed the lights over the interior door handles don't go off, they are always on dim. (haven't driven at night in a long time) I thought you could turn them off using the interior light brightness lever but no. Do these two door handle lights stay on all the time or is there a way to turn them off?

I pushed on them. They're solid. They don't budge.

they arent the bright courtesy lights, just the dim orangish tinted ones right?

They do not shut off while your headlights are on. You can pop the whole light out, push a small pin that holds the small light out, remove the light, and reinstall the socket and pin if you do not want them.

Yes, they are the dim orangish lights above the interior door handles. They can be made brighter using the interior dimmer switch. Funny, I never realized they came on with the headlights. Thanks for your help.

94 does not have the push in lights. Have your changed any weather stripping lately?

There is a plunger switch on each door in the rear jamb area. It has a plunger inside of the plunger itself that pulls out to adjust. If you just changed weather stripping it probably just needs adjusting. Carefully pull out the inner plunger (might need to use a box cutter or something). Once you pull it out some then just close the door and it will adjust itself.

The switches do go bad and are available still at the dealer.

Good luck!

Im not following you. I'm told the lights stay on when the headlights are on, otherwise the lights are off.

On my 90 there are 2 lights in the door "light". The bright one comes on when the doors are opened (courtisy lights) the other is a dim yellow/orange light that (yes it does) comes on with the headlights and always stays on. Very dim but you can find the door handle in the dark in case you want to get out at 70 mph

There is one on the underside of your rear view mirror as well that lights over the convience center (ash tray and soda holder) same bulb as the ones in the door that provide the night glow as well

Steve, that's a good question. I don't know. They are not even shown in the wiring diagram in my FSM??????
To be honest, they look like LEDs, at least they are only about 3/16 inch in diameter and about the same length.

I'm pulling my door trim panel this weekend for repair. I'll try and remember the pin bulb number that's in there and send it to you.
